The Lighthouse Learning Center is a not for profit educational inclusionary pre-school for children ages birth to five years. It is located in Orange Park, Florida and serves children from Florida Counties -- Clay, Duval, Baker, and St. John's.

Its Mission Statement is "To provide an educational and therapeutic environment for non-disabled and disabled pre-school children, to encourage inclusion as part of the learning process, and to inspire parents to become involved in their child's educational program.

During the 1998 calendar year, 188 special needs children received services at Lighthouse. For 1999 the Lighthouse staff expects to see at least 215 children. The expanding numbers indicate a huge growth sign and an indication of an enormous need for service.

Challenged children are referred to the Lighthouse Early Intervention Program by physicians, parents, and/or the University Hospital in Jacksonville. For qualified families there is no cost for the program.

Support for the Lighthouse Learning Center

Funding for the Lighthouse Learning Center comes from State-Federal sources, the Clay County School Board, the United Way, the Jacksonville Children's Commission, and the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council. Other funding comes from donations and fund raising activities without which the Lighthouse could not met expenses. Donations of in-kind materials and volunteers are also important facets to keep Lighthouse functioning.

Lighthouse, partly because it is a not-for-profit organization, will always struggle financially just to break even. If you are interested in volunteering your time or monies to the Lighthouse Learning Center, please call or write to:
