The home visitation program is a program that is available to Duval County children through the Jacksonville Children's Commission (JCC). The purpose of home visits is to provide better collaboration and communication between LLC staff and families. The family coordinator visits the home of the children to discuss the child with the parents. All family members and others involved in the support of the child are encouraged to take part in the visits. The goal of the home visitation program is that the child's needs can be better understood by the LLC staff and parents, and that together they can help the child reach his/her potential.
AREAS OF DISCUSSION
A grant from the FDDC was received to help establish inclusive child care in Clay County. Inclusion is a unique approach to child care that consists of disabled and non-disabled children in the dame classroom.
The Lighthouse Community Coordinator works closely with Clay County child care providers offering training for child care workers. Additional support includes providing specialized equipment and toys to Centers who serve exceptional children. A lending library will be established for use by providers.
In addition, the Community Coordinator assists families in finding care for their disabled children.
